Who thinks it's dangerous to live in Mexico? Why do you think that?

Fact is that I've had no more tummy issues living in Mexico than I had living in the U.S.

As I understand it, the bacteria takes a few weeks to adjust in your gut.

Well, that's true. The last time I was above the Rio Bravo, which was eight years ago, it felt weird drinking water out of the tap.

It depends on what part you live in. Boarder towns can be some of the deadliest places in the world, but I spent 2 weeks in Porta vallerta (No idea how to spell it) in 1992 for 2 weeks and had a great time.

The border zones are best avoided. Drive through as rapidly as possible or, even better, fly over. Rest of the country is pretty much great. Lots of beautiful women and real tacos, not that Taco Bell stuff.

Back in the early 90's I was stationed aboard the USS Jouett CG29. She was based out of 32nd St Naval Base in San Diego. On the rare weekends we were in port, a group of us would always go to Tijuana on the weekends. Just off the main strip there was this guy who sold tacos and beer out of this little stand with a hand painted wooden sign that read.....TACO BELL!!! To this day I have never had any taco compare to those. Real tacos are small. They just about fit is the palm of your hand. We could get three of them and a beer for 2 bucks. He even had these crazy spicy ones that if you ate all three, the beer was free.

Not only are real tacos small, but they are always soft. Those crunchy shells are a Gringo invention. You never, ever see them in Mexico.

About

Former newspaper editor in the United States living now in the high mountains of central Mexico. Retired early at 55 in the year 2000. Married a local (third wife) in 2002. Learned Spanish and became a Mexican citizen in 2005. Wish my new paisanos would stay in their own country, which is a fine place with lots of economic opportunities. As for my former sidekicks in the news media, they have become an embarrassment for the most part. Sad. Felipe Zapata (FZapata) is a nom de plume. My website is unseenmoon.wordpress.com
